Throughout my life, in one form or the other, I was told to tone it down.
My passion that is.
My voice that is.
My opinions.
And I find that interesting and crazy that anyone would ever give that message to anyone – ever.
The place where I felt really free and praised for my passion, voice, and opinions was in college. I got straight A’s my first trimester because i was so praised and so appreciated. I came to life.
But interestingly enough, when I went back to school 12 years later – for my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy I did not feel that same warm welcome. Strange, really.
But this is one of the things that is beautiful about me. It’s one of the things that makes me totally unique. And it’s also one of the things that I need in my career – to be able to serve in my mission.
Again, it’s what makes me stand out.
My thought is that these messages of “fit in” or “tone it down” came from people who don’t really have opinions or passion or a voice – people who were oppressed in one way or another. Their Spirit was killed so they are going to pass that on. It’s sad you know.
But here I am. Blazin’ and all a glory. I’m curious as to what’s next….
