Tomorrow the rate for this website goes up. I sent out a short email a few days ago letting my newsletter people know that the rate was going up on Sunday. Now traditional internet marketing says that you should send out a reminder before you actually raise the price. You know, as a courtesy. (But you know, I’ve always found that annoying… and not as a courtesy, but rather as them being salesy and annoying me….) It always gave me the feeling of “Hey, buy this, buy this, I’m desperate.”
But isn’t that funny. Even though when I saw other “marketers” do that tactic – which is exactly what I’ll call it – a tactic – I thought it was annoying, yet being in business and wanting to take my business to the next level, I THOUGHT that’s what I had to do to get ahead, to succeed – so I did it. Although I always thought it was annoying….. HUH? WHY! How crazy now that I look at it this way!
So yesterday while I was on the beach collecting shells the thought came to my mind, “You better send out an email to remind people that today is the last day to purchase at this price.”
But then I said, “Nope, not going to do it.”
I think that original voice was the voice of marketing. The voice of fear.
It wasn’t the voice of me. My voice was the not going to do it voice…
And I’m not going to do it.
People got the email that I’m raising the price. If they wanted to join at that price, they could have.
No exceptions.
We’re doing things differently around here.
No more bullshit.
People read my emails. They reply. It’s really as simple as that.
Before I fell into the trap of “internet marketing”
Of email after email after email.
I always hated all the emails I got from these other annoying marketers, yet I was doing the same annoying thing. How crazy. But not anymore. Amen to that!
